As the end of the summer season approaches, it is important to properly prepare your swimming pool for the winter season. Here are the basic steps to shut down your pool to avoid any problems during the next operating period.
Step 1: Cleaning the Sand Filter
First, thoroughly clean the sand filter. Start with a reverse rinse and continue with a pre-emptive sand rinse. Then feed the filter cleaner following the relevant instructions and let it work for about 10 hours. Close the process with a new reverse and preventive rinse.
Step 2: Emptying the Filter and Valve
Completely drain the filter and manifold of any remaining water. Open the filter cap and leave it open to avoid unpleasant odors in the next summer season.
Step 3: Electrical Wires and Pump
Disconnect the electrical cables of the pump, this procedure is recommended to be done by qualified personnel. In case of moisture in the engine room, remove the pump and store it in a dry place. Clean and remove the prefilter basket and pump cap to drain the water.
Step 4: Remove Pool Components
Remove the pool wader and steps, storing the bolts and screws in a safe, dry place.
Step 5: Close and Prepare for Winter
Lower the water level below the intake ports, emptying the pipes as well. In case the spouts are on the bottom, keep at least 5cm of water above the bottom. Finally, add the necessary winter chemical.
With the above actions, your pool will remain in excellent condition until the next summer season.
