Design:<\/strong> Paul de Ruiter Architects<\/p>\n Villa K, located in Th\u00fcringen, is the first German project for Paul de Ruiter Architects.<\/a> The realization of a sustainable villa, discreet and integrated into the natural environment, was the client's wish. The result is a simple, but innovative house built only of glass, steel and concrete.<\/a><\/p>\n Living space The sustainable house is oriented towards the south, this is where the living room and bedrooms are located. A floor-to-ceiling glass facade demarcates the living spaces. The glass facade, free of distractions such as windows or outdoor blinds, reflects nothing but the wind and offers stunning views of the valley.<\/p>\n Surrounding the living room is a U-shaped terrace. The middle of the terrace is crossed by a partially interior patio and a swimming pool that appears to float above the hill. Through the addition of a raised platform along the pool, the terrace visually appears to continue. This platform can be pulled up when you decide to go for a swim.<\/p>\n Around the terrace is a garden with vegetable crops and fruit trees, through which the owner can harvest his own yield in this special location on the mountains. Unity with the mountain landscape<\/p>\n The entrance, the technical areas, the pantry, the hunting room and the garage with space for six cars are located on the north side, moving into the mountainside. The complete roof structure of the villa is covered with moss and stream.<\/p>\n This reduces the cooling load and seen from a higher area, this green roof makes the villa harmonize with the natural environment. Above the garage and entrance, solar cells are placed, facing south to provide the villa with energy.<\/p>\n A climatically interesting and sustainable situation is created through the orientation towards the south and by placing a large part of the house on the mountainside.<\/p>\n The south side receives large amounts of sunlight and warmth, while the "basement" part of the house contains cold air. A heat exchanger placed in the villa collects this hot and cold air and transports it to the heat pump. The heat pump stores cold air to cool in the summer and saves warm air to heat the house during the winter times.<\/p>\n This system is connected to ceiling cooling and underfloor heating, guaranteeing a comfortable living climate every day of the year.
