Nickelodeon Resort Riviera Maya in Quintana Roo, Mexico, welcomed its first summer guests in June 2021. The Penetron system was used throughout the beachfront project, Nickelodeon Pools, to ensure durable and waterproof concrete structures \u2013 both above and below ground.<\/p>\n

Located just 27 kilometers south of Cancun International Airport, Mexico\u2019s first Nickelodeon Resort is a family-friendly beach vacation destination with a playful Nickelodeon twist. The resort\u2019s 280 suites all offer panoramic views of the Caribbean Ocean and direct access to the pool area. In addition, the resort features six restaurants, three bars, a spa, a beachfront pool and the 6-acre Aqua Nick\u2122 water park, featuring over 20 waterslides (total length: >600 m) and 555 meters of river.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, a Nickelodeon resort will play off the network\u2019s most popular characters \u2013 and the Riviera Maya Resort does just that,\u201d says Alejandro Musinho, CEO of Penetron Mexico. \u201cFor example, the Pineapple Suite is inspired by the pineapple shape of SpongeBob\u2019s undersea home. The Rooftop Suite was designed as an underground lair dedicated to the Ninja Heroes, and the Big Kahuna Suite is a tribute to the history of Nickelodeon animation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nickelodeon Resort Pools \u2013 A Coastal Challenge<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Penetron Mexico worked with Benau Comercial, Penetron\u2019s Caribbean distributor and general contractor, to develop a full range of waterproofing solutions as the Nickelodeon complex\u2019s above- and below-ground structures needed protection from the coastal environment, high groundwater levels and exposure to the tropical climate of the Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula.<\/p>\n

Local ready-mix concrete suppliers provided PENETRON ADMIX-treated concrete for the pools (the leisure pool, children\u2019s pool and main pool), hot tubs, wastewater treatment plant tanks and hotel flower beds. Local Penetron products \u2013 PENECRETE MORTAR and PENETRON \u2013 were applied to waterproof and repair the concrete roofs, water slides, main pool drains, Lazy River and Rapid River lines, water compensation tanks, pumps and water park fountains.<\/p>\n

Self-healing Concrete<\/strong><\/h2>\n

PENETRON ADMIX is easily mixed during mixing and is not affected by climatic conditions, quickly becomes an integral part of the concrete and lasts for its entire life. PENETRON and PENECRETE MORTAR applied topically to concrete also provide the same self-healing capabilities as concrete treated with PENETRON ADMIX. Any fine cracks that form in the concrete will heal permanently when exposed to water.<\/p>\n

Alejandro Musinho adds: \u201cSince Penetron crystalline technology becomes an integral part of the concrete matrix and provides protection against chloride ion ingress and moisture penetration, it will also significantly reduce future maintenance costs for Nickelodeon Resort.\u201d<\/p>\n
