The most common type of pool on the market today is the classic concrete pool. These types of pools represent the 60% of swimming pools manufactured today. They come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes and can support many spa features.

The prefabricated swimming pools fiberglass make up the 7% on the pool market today, but there are limitations in the shapes available. The rest of the 33% are also prefabricated pools, delivered ready with all their operating equipment. In the past there was also a limited number of designs in them. Today, however, a much greater variety is available.

In the design and construction of a swimming pool, the cost is an important condition, since they must suit both the owner's and the space's requirements. Thus, products that show the flexibility to exist in a variety of designs, have limited conditions for safe operation and do not lag behind in stability are sought after in the market.

History

THE swimming as an organized activity appears, for the first time, around 2500 BC in ancient Egypt. However, swimming pools were built in the 1st century BC by the Romans. In Rome and Greece swimming was part of the education of the young. Many pools in Roman times were heated and used water from natural springs. Although elaborate marble baths with elaborate gilding were very popular among high society, most people continued to swim in lakes and rivers. These bathing pools were the ancestors for today's swimming pools.

In Europe many people initially avoided building swimming pools because of the fear of contamination. Europeans created the first swimming organization in 1837 in London, which had six indoor pools. The sport of swimming became extremely popular after the 1896 Olympics.

Raw materials

Swimming pools are usually made of PVC, galvanized steel or metal, cement and various synthetic materials such as Fiberglas etc.

The manufacturing process

Here are the steps to build a concrete pool with internal waterproofing.
1. Pool designs are completed and excavation is done.
2. The opening during excavation must be larger than the dimensions of the pool, in order to have space around it to carry out the work.
3. Next is the formwork and the ironing of the walls and the bottom.
4. Place the materials that will be built in as well as the branches that will be covered with concrete.
5. The internal formwork is prepared.
6. The concreting of the pool is carried out.
7. The pool is sealed internally with special material and lined with tiles or mosaics.
8. The branches of the hydraulic perimeter networks are placed.
9. An externally accessible perimeter tunnel is built.
10. After the construction is completed, it is cleaned, filled with water and the mechanism is put into operation.
11. The chemicals that ensure the purity of the water are added.
12. The water temperature is set at 27 – 30 degrees Celsius. Beware of high temperatures. They can cause cracks in the construction or damage to the waterproofing.

The future

Improvements are constantly being made in the methods and materials used to construct a swimming pool. New raw materials are discovered that are lighter and easier to handle. Optical fibers are used for lighting giving safer alternatives to electrical installations. Finally the maintenance of the pool is done automatically by remote control, while the settings regarding the water features are done through apps from our mobile phone.
