Salt water, a solution that works "miracles"

The new trend in swimming pool construction in recent years it has been called "salt water". More and more owners are choosing it for their tank, because of the marine feeling it gives and also - by general admission - its beneficial effect on health.

Having impressed the USA in recent years, salt water is coming with acquired speed to our country as well. It is a solution with salt and water, which after a special electrolysis process has disinfectant and detergent properties. In fact, some scientists and companies consider it to be the green and economic answer to detergents that may contain dangerous substances for health and the environment.

So far in America it is used by cleaning crews in hotels to disinfect common areas such as toilets or kitchens while, based on salt water, a whole small industry has been created: Companies manufacture special electrolyte devices to prepare the solution. In other words, private individuals place salt and water in the device and with the use of electricity, the water salts are molecularly separated and two different solutions are obtained. One can be used as a cleaner-detergent, while the other has an antimicrobial effect.

At first, Greek scientists were wary, even though the solution in question had been approved by the US Food and Environmental Administration (FDA and EPA), but after further studies and thorough research, they have begun to be convinced of its usefulness and beneficial properties,

Pools and salt water

Lately, the use of saltof water in swimming pools has increased dramatically. Convinced of its beneficial effect on health and skin, -in contrast to chlorine-, current and potential pool owners choose it without a second thought. The process of salt electrolysis is used by companies in swimming pools in order to avoid excessive chlorination. Anyway, one of the biggest downsides of pool water to date has been the smell of chlorine and the lack of feeling like you're in the sea. Now, with the use of the miracle solution, both of these disadvantages have been weakened.

In Japan, the use of water electrolysis devices in swimming pools is very widespread, as it helps to limit their chlorination. In addition, doctors use it to sterilize their equipment or to help patients with bedsores and foot infections.

Food disinfection

The companies that sell the electrolysis devices - which look like small pumps or burners - claim that the liquid can be used to disinfect food (poultry, meat, fish), wash vegetables, clean floors and other surfaces, as a general cleaner and for degreasing.

With the electrolysis of salt water, one produces an alkaline solution, which actually dissolves fats, and a second solution that resembles bleach, and which should be used within two months because otherwise it loses its active property.

Scientists, however, draw attention and emphasize that despite the benefits of the solutions, there can also be side effects, for example if the solution comes into contact with chlorinated organic compounds that can be carcinogenic, while another disadvantage is that the two solutions they cannot be used together because one can neutralize the other. In addition, saline is a relatively unstable solution, which is why it must be used relatively quickly.

For these reasons, moreover, constant checks are still being made on salt water, in order to fully regulate its properties and balance its negative effects, so that its use can be spread even further.
