Uncovered space transformation

It's about her swimming pool construction in an uncovered area of an existing single-family house, which was done in collaboration with her TSO- TSOPANAKIS and Pol. Engineer Nikolaos Gurkoulias.

The main objective of the construction of this project was the transformation of an uncovered space to create a space for relaxation and exercise during the whole year and not only during the summer months.

The optimal utilization of the uncovered space was chosen with a maximum pool length of approximately 11.00m and a width on the longest side of 4.50m. about. From the beginning, the dimensions of the space, an existing external staircase, but mainly the difficulty of accessing the space and the excavation at a border point from adjacent finished single-family houses were constructional obstacles.

 The construction is conventional using reinforced concrete, wall waterproofing, cement mortar coating and glass mosaic installation. The use of top quality materials and additives was a key driver for achieving as much as possible a construction that acquires maximum value and duration over time while faithfully observing the strictest specifications for tightness and durability.

A prominent position is occupied by the telescopic opening canopy of TSO-TSOPANAKIS which was placed around the perimeter and at a height so that it is the main factor for the use of the pool all year round and not only in the summer months. Despite the non-rectangular floor plan of the housing, the solution chosen was the double opening canopy in two directions which during the summer season will subtly "open" the pool to the outside without giving the feeling of a closed space. It consists of a frame of a special aluminum profile electrostatically painted in the color of the exterior frames of the single-family house for complete harmony in the space, giving a sense of continuity without creating mismatched volumes. The use of polycarbonate cellular sheet in tinted shade with protection UV on the one hand it discreetly protects and on the other hand it allows the penetration of useful light protecting against ultraviolet rays. Also very important is the finding that it actively participates in the heating of the indoor environment during the winter season.

The pool water is heated via a heat exchanger from a boiler with a gas burner, and there is also the possibility of connecting to solar panels panel for maximum energy savings. The space is dehumidified by means of a special machine and air circulation channels which, additionally through its connection with the boiler, participates selectively and only in the heating of the surrounding space during the very cold days of winter.

Maximum energy savings are achieved by installing a sliding isothermal cover 5mm which eliminates the evaporation of water and reduces the energy consumption required to achieve perfect living conditions and create an environment that induces well-being and relaxation for users.
