Is true that in recent years, the pools - whether they are private or public - they are a great attraction for lovers of swimming or water in general. For this reason and reasonably the preference for this type of entertainment is constantly increasing, with a large number of private individuals deciding to acquire their own swimming pool but also with the creation of public and private play and entertainment facilities for young and old.

Considering the above, it is necessary to know and pay attention to the invisible dangers that threaten our safety and health. As we read and hear very often, there are certain diseases that are transmitted through circulating water (swimming pools, jacuzzis), manifest themselves in various infections (skin, eyes, ears and respiratory) and if not taken care of can cause ultimately very serious damage.

If someone swallows the contaminated water, it can easily lead to their illness. Some of the most common germs found in water are cryptosporidium, shigella, and coliform, which often cause severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. Worst of all, the above is easily contagious, so if someone with diarrhea is swimming in the same area, the pool or hot tub can become contaminated with the germs that are constantly being shed from their bodies. Children, pregnant women and any person with a vulnerable body have an increased chance of getting sick, due to a decline in their immune system.

The mistake most people make is to blindly trust the water when they know it is properly chlorinated. Certainly chlorine and all similar ways of purifying water neutralize every microbe, the truth however is that chlorine needs some hours to achieve complete and total destruction of microbes. During these hours, therefore, nothing excludes a possible infection. After all, the complete disinfection of a significant amount of water requires the implementation of the so-called "shock" chlorine, which is difficult to do during peak periods.

Bearing in mind that the cleaners of the specific - private and public - swimming pool areas observe all the necessary protection measures to ensure the safety of those who use the pool water, we in turn and from our side must also protect the ourselves but also our fellow human beings, making sure to observe some simple hygiene rules:

• We never swallow water. We try as much as we can to avoid the water touching the inside of our lips.
• We "reverently" observe the rules of hygiene. We always shower before and after entering the pool and always wash our hands after using the toilet. We all have large amounts of invisible enteropathogens on us, which we also carry in the water.
• Parents should take their children to the toilet at regular intervals, without waiting for them to ask. Children cannot always achieve control of the clamps and therefore dirty the water.
• If we have a baby, we change diapers in the bathroom and not next to the pool, because germs can spread to the surrounding surfaces.
• We don't swim when we have diarrhea. Especially small children. These are germs that are easily spread through the water and may make others who swim in the pool sick.
