I. NATURE OF THE PROBLEM-REQUIREMENTS

A common and economical way of forming the final surface of one swimming pool is to paint it with a special color (e.g. epoxy paint). This is a technically adequate solution, which is clearly more economical than ceramic coating tiles.
The choice of using the epoxy paint significantly affects the way waterproofing her swimming pool, because it sets specific requirements for the waterproofing which will be implemented.
More specifically, waterproofing layer should have:

• Durability over time, since its position between the structural elements of the pool and the layer of epoxy paint makes future operations on it difficult and expensive.
• Strong adhesion to its structural elements swimming pool, to successfully cope with possible negative pressures, which may periodically develop on it.

II. SOLUTION

It is additionally recommended, during the concreting of the structural elements of the swimming pool, to add to the concrete the liquidizer-sealant mass PLASTIPROOF, in a ratio of 0.2-0.5% by the weight of the cement.

The requirements of elasticity and resistance to water, chemicals and weather effects, which must be satisfied by pool paint, successfully covers the application of epoxy paint EPOXYCOAT-S. It is a 2-component epoxy paint, which shows increased elasticity and resistance to abrasion, weather effects and crowd chemicals, such as dilute acids, alkalis, petroleum, some solvents, water, seawater etc.

III. APPLICATION

Substrate preparation

1. Good cleaning of the surface from remains of formwork oils, loose materials, dust, etc.
2. Cutting the protruding parts of the hairpins to the surface of the walls.
3. Preparation of a strong, waterproof “mud” layer (cement : sand = 1 : 2.5) with the addition of the mass sealer ADINOL-DM, in a ratio of 1% by weight of cement
   On the vertical surfaces, the adhesion of the cement mortar is strengthened by applying a layer of "throw" reinforced with the construction resin ADIPLAST (cement : sand : ADIPLAST : water = 1 : 1 : 0.25 : 0.25 by volume).
   At the bottom of it swimming pool, its adhesion is strengthened cement mortar by applying an adhesive layer reinforced with ADIPLAST building resin (cement : sand : ADIPLAST : water = 1 : 1 : 0.5 : 0.5 by volume).
   Application of the mud with the help of guides in a thickness of 2-3 cm.
   ADINOL-DM consumption: about 4.2 kg/m3 cement mortar.
4. Preparation of a strong, waterproof, final layer of abrasive cement mortar using fine sand (cement : sand = 1 : 2) with the addition of ADINOL-DM mass sealer, in a ratio of 1% by weight of cement.
   Application of the ground cement mortar to a thickness of 5-10 mm.
   ADINOL-DM consumption: about 5 kg/m3 cement mortar.
5. At the junction of walls-pool floor and of the walls between them is recommended, during its application cement mortar, to form a slightly hollow "gutter", in order to facilitate the application of the epoxy systems that will follow.

Priming and painting with epoxy paint EPOXYCOAT-S

1. After at least 28 days have passed since the application of the cement mortar, in order to complete its hardening, and if it is dry (humidity < 4%), the surface of the bottom and walls of the pool is primed with DUROFLOOR-BI.
   Components A (resin) and B (hardener) of DUROFLOOR-BI are packaged in containers with a predetermined mixing ratio. Component B is added completely into component A. The two components are mixed for approximately 5 minutes with a low speed drill (300 rpm). It is important to stir both the walls and the bottom of the container in order to distribute the hardener evenly.
   DUROFLOOR-BI consumption: approximately 150 g/m2, depending on the absorbency of the substrate.
   Alternatively, priming can be done with EPOXYCOAT-S diluted with the special solvent SM-14, at a rate of 10-20% by weight.
2. Any cracks or imperfections are plastered with EPOMAX-EK epoxy paste.
3. After the primer has dried and within 24 hours of its application, the pool is painted with the epoxy paint EPOXYCOAT-S.water tank insulation – Macon
   Components A (resin) and B (hardener) of EPOXYCOAT-S are packaged in containers with a predetermined mixing ratio. Component B is added completely into component A. The two components are mixed for approximately 5 minutes with a low speed drill (300 rpm). It is important to stir both the walls and the bottom of the container in order to distribute the hardener evenly.
   EPOXYCOAT-S is used as is or diluted up to 5% wt. with the special solvent SM-14. The material is applied by roller, brush or spray in at least two layers. The second layer follows after the first has dried, but within 24 hours of applying the first.
   EPOXYCOAT-S consumption: 200-300 g/m2/layer.

IV. NOTES water tank insulation – Macon

• Particular attention must be paid to the correct placement of its "special pieces". swimming pool, such as lights, inlets and outlets water, cleaning outlets, etc., which are vulnerable points for the waterproofing.
• The EPOXYCOAT-S contains solvents. When applying it in closed spaces, special attention must be paid to their good ventilation.

• Adhesion between successive layers can be strongly disturbed by the effect of any moisture or due to dirt, which may interfere between them.
• The surfaces of the epoxy layers must, after their application, be protected for about 4-6 hours from moisture. The effect of moisture can give the surface a white tinge and/or make it sticky. It can also cause disorders during hardening. Discolored or sticky layers on parts of surfaces must first be removed by sanding or milling, and then these surfaces must be recoated.
• In the event that there is a longer than expected waiting time between the successive layers, or if already used surfaces are to be recoated after a long period, then the old surface must be thoroughly cleaned and thoroughly sanded. Then the new coating is applied.
