Casa Vale do Lobo

This house with an exotic name and a modern look is located in Southern Portugal. In particular, it is located inside a golf resort, the so-called Vale do Lobo, where more and more modern houses with unique architecture appear every year. The architect Vasco Vieira and the office of Arqui+ Arquitectura, created a Minimal design of wood, glass and cement that certainly causes admiration, but the indisputable jewel of the building is none other than the swimming pool.

Casa Vale do Lobo's pool starts at the roof and extends, almost floating, out and away from the house. The water from this central pool creates a waterfall that leads to another smaller pool at ground level which in turn joins the indoor pool and spa. The strict lines of Vieira's architecture can be misunderstood at first glance and considered too modern and Minimal to be relaxing.  

However, what the visitors and above all the owners of the house emphasize, is how carefully thought out the placement of the pool is to have the best possible view and unique ... acoustics, which results in an effect of absolute relaxation.

Pool House by Joaquin Alvado Banon

The Pool House is the realization of a research done by the architect Joaquin Alvado Banon trying to "marry" architecture with water. Banon started by designing the pool first and then placed the house around it, and the end result was a house defined by his pool and a pool defined by the house. It is narrow and goes around the entire building, "wetting" every corner and uniting each space in an almost dreamlike way. Its bright orange color brings life to the otherwise gray building starting at ground level and then passing right through the center of the house.

And if you're wondering if Joaquin Alvado Banon got the marriage he was after, reviews of his work have decided that yes, he did. The building has an unprecedented "fluid" feel, a sense of freedom that breaks down the boundaries of a strictly urban building and turns it into a small urban paradise that becomes one with the city and its streets. To see it you have to go to eastern Spain and ring the bell of the small family that lives there.

Shaw House

The Shaw House is a house built on the beach in Vancouver, Canada. Its main feature is the narrowness of the spaces and its most interesting point is none other than the swimming pool. Architects Michael Cunningham, John Patkau, Patricia Patkau and Peter Suter, knowing that they do not have the comfort to expand the house in width, wanted to make it more comfortable by creating height.

There, between its very high ceilings they wanted to place a swimming corridor for lack of other space, but also to make the interior look bigger. And they succeeded. The pool that runs right over the center of the house and from its entrance, uniquely reflects the light throughout the building making it look very bright and much more comfortable than it would otherwise. Apart from that, it gives a comfortable feeling to the space, since it looks like a window to the sky and always hides surprises as one of the owners may swim past you.

The Tangga House

It is located in Singapore and is the creation of Guz Architects. The first thing that catches the eye in this house, of course, is its uniquely beautiful swimming pool with transparent walls that make the water seem to float over the green grass. What the architects wanted to achieve was to create a house in harmony with nature and with a multi-level garden to adorn it.

They achieved this by creating this one-of-a-kind swimming pool that wraps around the house, setting a water boundary to the building, and continued by creating hanging gardens right above the pool on another level. The best part of the house however is in the basement where a large window looks right into the pool water letting it flood the space with a dreamy deep blue color.

Residence in India 

A round pool on a rocky shore, with a wooden deck around, and a view of the ocean. And where is home? Below. Look more closely. Tucked under the deck and between the rocks, with small portholes, like a hobbit house. The most glaring element of the house, the pool, in the middle, and you put the rest in the gaps and in the corners.
